Sunyani Regional hospital records 56 new births in a week

Sunyani, Jan. 1, GNA – The Sunyani Regional Hospital recorded 56 new births, including three sets of twins, between the eve of Christmas and January 1, 2022, Miss Susan Tiwaa, Midwife in charge, has said.

The babies comprise 31 boys and 25 girls, she told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani on Saturday.

Ms Tiwaa said though 26 of the babies were born through Cesarean Section (CS), all the babies and their mothers were healthy and some had been discharged.

She, therefore, advised the newborn mothers, particularly those who delivered through the CS, to report any health complications to the hospital or any nearest health facility.

She appealed for more incubators at the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the hospital to cater for premature babies.

Ms Tiwaa also urged pregnant women to attend antenatal clinics regularly and avoid delivering at home to protect themselves and their unborn babies.

Meanwhile, Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene, the Bono Regional Minister, presented baby diapers and pampers to mothers, who delivered on New Year day, January 1, 2022, at major hospitals in the Sunyani Municipality.

The facilities included the Sunyani Municipal and the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) hospitals.

Mad Owusu-Banahene reminded the public of the COVID-19 pandemic and asked everybody to adhere to the health safety protocols to protect themselves.

“The ordeal you will go through in accessing COVID-19 treatment is devastating”, she said and advised the populace to continue to wash their hands with soap under running water, use alcohol-based hand sanitisers frequently and observe social distancing at public places and gatherings as well.

Mad Owusu-Banahene said the Regional Health Directorate had received enough COVID-19 vaccines and advised the populace to take the vaccine for their interest, saying those who failed to do so exposed themselves to the viral disease.

The Regional Minister commended the health workers in the Municipality for their sacrificial services throughout the yuletide and asked them to continue with such dedicated services to the nation.
