Wassa Nsuta (W/R), Dec. 31, GNA— The Panafrican Equipment Group, a leading distributor of Komatsu equipment, has commissioned an ultra-modern library for Dadwen Schools Complex in the Tarkwa-Nusaem Municipality.
The library, which can accommodate a lot of pupils and teachers at the same had been stocked with various academic novels.
Commissioning the facility, Mr Charles Field-Marsham, the Executive Chairman and Founder of Panafrican Equipment Group, explained that, “Ghana Manganese Company (GMC) Limited has been our customer in Ghana for ten years and my wife and l have started a charity called knowledge in empowering youth”.
He said the company together with their charity group had built 35 libraries in Kenya and Tanzania adding that they thought of extending the library project to Ghana and West Africa as part of their cooperate social responsibility.
“We have worked with (GMC) Limited and they have been great partners so we decided to put up this library when they made a request”, Mr Field-Marsham said.
He stated that they were building 12 more libraries in Kenya which would be completed in 69 months and intend to begin same in Ghana.
Mr Field-Marsham further said, “there were approximately 1,000 books currently in the library. Another 500 books would arrive soon. We will keep bringing books because the average library in Kenya has between 2000-2500 books”.
According to the Founder of Panafrican Equipment Group, the multi media library had four computers and a system presentation have been connected to the internet to help facilitate teaching in classrooms”
He charged authorities of the school to take proper care of the facility to enable future generations to benefit from it.
Mr Jurgen Eijgendaal, Managing Director of GMC (Limited), “thanked Rita and Charles Field-Marsham for doing all the good work which actually came to us through Panafrican Equipment Group”.
He encouraged the pupils to cultivate the habit of reading and use the opportunity to enhance themselves for the rest of their lives.
The Municipal Director of Education, Mr Alex Kwaku Duah, on his part, said, Dadwen Schools Complex was one of the leading schools in the Municipality and was hopeful that the teachers and pupils would make good use of the facility.
He thanked Panafrican Equipment Group and GMCL for doing more to complement government efforts in enhancing education.
Mr Dickson Adzatoh, Assistant Headmaster of Dadwen Schools Complex, who had the opportunity to travel to Kenya to inspect a similar library that had been constructed for his school said, “our school had its priorities and challenges and we dreamt of having an electronic library”.
He expressed gratitude to the donors and urged the pupils to patronize the facility to improve upon their knowledge and also pledged to maintain the facility regularly.
