Influential Woman Foundation feeds 500 in the streets of Accra

Accra, Dec 28, GNA— The Influential Woman Foundation, non-for-profit organisation, has fed over 500 people in the streets of Accra to mark its first anniversary.

The Organisation, made up of 20 results-driven ladies, fed needy children; head-potters and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) at the 37 Military Hospital Bus Stop, the Ridge intersection near West African Examination Council and the Arts Centre area.

The Group presented the beneficiaries with cooked food, drinks, ice cream, water and other items.

Madam Hannah Mahmoud, the Public Relations Officer of the Foundation, said the gesture formed part of the Group’s one-year anniversary give-away.

She said: “Christmas is all about eating, drinking and sharing. After receiving massive support from our donors, we are on the streets of Accra, distributing food, drinks, ice cream, water to the kids living on the streets.

“We cannot celebrate Christmas without kids, so we are here to make merry with them and we are looking at leaving a lasting impression on them, anytime they remember the 2021 Christmas.”

Madam Mahmoud noted that it was the Foundation’s primary aim to help the vulnerable, the deprived, and the indigents.

She said the Organisation was also helping alleviate “menstrual poverty” in rural communities.

Menstrual poverty is when a girl comes to the age of puberty and does not have access to pad, tissue paper and the knowledge to help them go through the cycle successfully.

Madam Mahmoud said a study by the Foundation revealed that some girls under their area of focus when menstruating did not go to school for the fear of staining their dresses with blood and that they had given such girls sanitary pads and toilet rolls, to help them go through the cycle.

“So far, we have been able to donate over 2000 pads at Nyanfekon in the Central Region, Kuntenase, Pease in Kumasi, where three schools were selected and given sanitary pads, learning materials, nose masks, hand sanitisers and soaps.

“We have also been in the Eastern Region, to Larteh Akuapem during their festive occasion, where we administered education on breast cancer, then to Asamankese, where we spent time with some widows,” she said.

The Public Relations Officer, added that going into the New Year, the Foundation was also looking at empowering the girl-child through workshops, especially for those that were unable to continue their education, to equip them with employable skills.
