AAK strengthens sub-structures for effective governance

Abura Dunkwa (C/R), Dec. 25, GNA— Mr Willyevans Obiri Awuah, the District Chief Executive of Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK) District has appealed to Area Councils to undertake their assigned duties passionately to ensure holistic development of the district.

Delivering his third ordinary meeting address, he assured that the Assembly was committed to resource the Area Councils especially with logistics to enable them to deliver on their mandate.

Area Councils and Unit Committees were established by section three sub-section three and four of the Local Government Act, 2016 (Act 936)

The Legislative Instrument(LI 1967) within the area of authority of a District Assembly, mandates Area Council members to champion local level development within their jurisdiction under the direct supervision of the District Assembly.

He emphasized that the District Assembly could not function effectively without the effective functional and reliable sub-structures such as area councils.

The DCE was of the view that, there was the need for them to work towards the meaningful implementation of the local governance and decentralization policies under the direction and guidance of the Assembly.

He charged the members of Area Councils to spearhead the social, economic, and political needs of their areas by communicating clearly the agenda of the assembly devoid of any partisan or ethnic consideration or personal sentiments.

Mr Obiri Awuah urged them to serve their constituents in accordance with laid down procedures and rules to achieve the intended purpose to inure to the growth of the Assembly.
