Effia (WR), Dec. 24, GNA – The second year of the implementation of the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP) is progressing steadily and at various stages of completion.
The project includes asphaltic surfacing of a two-kilometre Assakae – Whindo road, bitumen surfacing of a half-kilometre Whindo Health Post Road, construction of 10 refuse collection points and fabrication and supply of 10 skip refuse containers.
Mr Kojo Acquah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA), announced this during the Fourth Ordinary Meeting of the Second Session of the Assembly.
Aside from the GSCSP, Mr Acquah also mentioned that the Assembly had completed the procurement processes and awarded some developmental projects to successful contractors.
They include the construction of a six-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities and a six-seater water closet toilet with water tank support for Mpatado M/A Basic School.
There is also the construction of another two-unit Kindergarten classroom block with ancillary facilities for Mpatado M/A Basic School.
Others were the construction of a two-unit Kindergarten Classroom Block with ancillary facilities at Effiakuma, construction of a 10-Seater Water Closet Toilet and two-bay urinal for Whindo Market, construction of two No. Six-Seater Water Closet Toilet facilities for East Tanokrom Market and Good Shepherd Anglican School.
The rest are the construction of three pedestrian footbridges at Effia, Kwesimintsim Zongo and I-Adu, which are all completed and in use.
Mr Acquah said the Works Department of the Assembly monitored and supervised several ongoing projects during the period under review.
Key among them were the continuation and completion of the CHPS Compound at Apremdo, which is about 65 per cent completed, construction of staff accommodation block for the Whindo Health Centre Phase I (about 85% completed) and construction of a three-storey office complex for EKMA at Apremdo.
Others are the construction of Municipal Court and Accommodation at Apollo and Whindo respectively which are about 95 per cent completed and Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) project for the construction of Sanitary Facility at Mpatado with roofing works completed.
Touching on environmental health and sanitation, he said, the Assembly in its effort to get rid of waste in the municipality organised clean-up exercises on several occasions which were well patronised by residents.
He said a total of GHC53,000 was used to support twenty-nine physically challenged persons to boost their businesses.
The beneficiaries received deep freezers, school items, Fufu Pounding Machine, Pepper Grinding Machines, welding machines, plumbing tools, bags of maize, gallons of cooking oil, tubers of yam, welder’s tools, bags of onions, bags of charcoal, baking ingredients and printing materials among others.
