Akatsi (VR), Dec. 14, GNA— Members of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Akatsi Chapter have been urged to provide quality healthcare services to the public at all times.
The appeal was made during a dinner and awards night held to recognise and reward deserving members and other health sector workers.
It was also to climax the week-long GRNMA celebration in the Municipality.
The maiden edition of the awards in the Municipality honoured more than 45 members and partners.
The awards included Clinical Excellence Award, Long Service and Loyalty Award, Association Interest Award, Outstanding Ward Leadership Award, Nurse Excellence Award, and GRNMA Ultimate Recognition Award.
Mr Emmanuel CK Todzoh, Akatsi Chapter Chairman of the Association, commended the award winners for their sterling performances and relentless efforts in contributing to quality health care delivery.
He said the Association recognised the issue of staff inspiration and motivation as the key to improving staff commitment and performance, hence the decision to award hardworking and deserving contributions to improved service delivery in the health system.
Mr Todzoh urged the award winners to serve as role models to their colleagues and the young ones in the health sector.
Mr Todzoh, however, observed that health workers needed more to help in delivering efficient and effective healthcare.
Dr Karikari Bonsu, the Medical Superintendent of the Akatsi Municipal Hospital, who chaired the event, commended the executives for organising the event.
He said the recognition would motivate the staff in active service and those going on retirement.
He said nurses and midwives play an essential role in delivering quality health care and there was the need to pay attention to them.
He also congratulated all members, especially the award winners and expressed the hope the recognition would go a long way to improving the service delivery in the area.
Some awardees include Mr Albert Attipoe and Mrs Georgina Klogo for Long Service and Loyalty; Association Interest Award went to Mr Ben Badzi and Mr Peter Soka.
Mrs Gloria Akrong, the Children’s Ward in-Charge at the Akatsi Municipal Hospital took the outstanding ward leadership award while Ebenezer Wajoli was adjudged winner of the Nurse Excellence Award.
A citation of excellence award went to Dr Karikari Bonsu for his commitment and dedication to serving humanity.
The Akatsi South Municipality has more than 294 nurses and 59 midwives, including Community Health Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, General Nurses, Ophthalmic Nurses, Peri-Operative Nurse, Ear Nose and Throat Nurse and Paediatric Nurses.
The celebration was on the theme: “Nurses and Midwives, A voice to lead in the vision for a transformed healthcare in a Post-Covid 19 World.”
There were several activities such as free medical screening outreach, radio talk show, durbar, sports and games.
