Takoradi, Dec. 14, GNA- Maame Efua Acquah, the STMA Protocol Officer, has suggested to city authorities to find alternative ways to felling trees along ceremonial roads for road expansion projects in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
She said, “I always cry when I see trees being cut down, especially in towns and cities to give way for projects. I wonder why we are not deploying the technology of uprooting and replanting trees that are uprooted from such sites.”
Maame Efua Acquah during a roundtable on Environmental Governance, therefore, urged the EPA to seriously look into the matter and help stakeholders to look for appropriate technologies in that direction.
“I love nature, I am unable to stand such unwanted but preventive destruction of the environment, particularly trees that have been around for over sixty years,” she added.
Meanwhile, recent developments in some parts of the country and the Western Region, in particular, had witnessed massive pruning and felling of trees that served as windbreaks, shades to pedestrians and passengers and prevented erosion as well.
