Tema, Dec. 13, GNA – The Tema District Court, Community Centre, has granted bail in the sum of GH¢5,000.00 with one surety to one Hajia Memuna for dumping and burning of rubbish in an open space.
The court, presided over by Mr Festus Fovi, granted the accused bail after she pleaded not guilty to charges of count one, dumping and burning of rubbish in open space; and count two non-compliance with the abatement notice.
The case has been adjourned to January 20, 2022, for the accused to reappear before the court.
Madam Saudatu Issaka, Assistant Health Environmental Analyst, who was prosecuting said the accused is a resident of Tema Community One, Site one.
She said on August 12, 2021, at about 1000 hours, Environmental Health Officers on routine premises inspection, found that the accused person had accumulated refuse in front of her house and burnt it, thereby, causing a smoke nuisance to the public.
The Environmental Health Officers served Memuna the accused person with an abatement notice to stop the act.
The Prosecutor said, on August, 26 this year, the Environmental Health Officer conducted a re-inspection at the same place and noticed that in spite of the notice served her, she continued to accumulate and burn the rubbish at the same spot.
The accused was then charged with the offence to appear and answer before court.
