Wa, Dec. 9, GNA – A total of nine persons lost their lives instantly whilst nine others sustained various degrees of injuries in a fatal accident involving a VIP bus with registration number GT 5693 – 16.
The bus was traveling from Accra to Wa when it got involved in the accident near Gindabuor community in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region.
Confirming the accident to the media, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr De-Graft Adjei Amah, the Wa District Police Commander, said the accident occurred at about 10hrs in the morning.
According to him, the driver survived but was in a critical condition, adding that all the injured persons have since been brought to the Upper West Regional Hospital in Wa.
The deceased bodies, he said have also been brought to the Upper West Regional hospital morgue.
Though the cause of the accident is not yet known, Mr Alhassan Abdul-Razak, an eyewitness said judging from the distance the bus skidded off the road to hit a dawadawa tree before it finally landed, and he suspected over speeding.
