CAF Confederation Cup: Hearts sent packing by JS Saoura

Accra, Dec. 5, GNA – Accra Hearts of Oak couldn’t make the group stages of the 2021/22 CAF Confederation Cup after being thumped 4-0 by Algerian side JS Saoura.

Hearts, despite winning the first leg encounter by two goals, couldn’t get the needed results to progress to the next round as JS Saoura edged them 4-2 on aggregate.

Hearts conceded the first goal in the 22nd minute after some poor goalkeeping by Richard Baidoo who was shockingly picked ahead of the regular starter Richard Attah as Abdelijalil Saad feeble strike passed in between his legs.

Things got much worse for the Phobians after Oussama Bellatreche scored the second goal for the home side in the 37th minute through a header after some miscalculated jump by goalkeeper Richard Baidoo who was having a dreadful outing in post.

Hearts barely threatened in the final third as they were often put on the back foot by the home side who levelled things on aggregate at the end of the first half.

Hearts were looking to pull a goal back to keep their qualification hopes alive but things turned out to be worse after Oussama Bellatreche scored his second goal of the game to put the home side in cruise control of the match.

The Phobians huffed and puffed to get that away goal which could seal qualification but they never got it as Aimen Lahmeri added the fourth to ensure an emphatic victory for the home side who secure a spot in the group stages

Hearts continued their dreadful form in Africa competitions especially after being thrown out of the CAF Champions League by Wydad Athletic Club who annihilated the Phobians 6-2 on aggregate.

Hearts will now turn attention to the Ghana Premier League where they are currently rocked bottom on the league standings.
