Tema, Nov. 29, GNA – The Tema Senior High School (TEMASCHO) commemorates its 60th anniversary with a remarkable accomplishment of 98.9 per cent performance in the 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
Mr Emmanuel Kobina Baidoo, the headmaster said that last year the school presented 696 students for the WASSCE, 98.9 per cent of the students had eight passes in all subjects meaning they had the opportunity to attend any tertiary education they so desire.
He said the school also performed creditably at the just-ended National Science and Maths Quiz and noted that some technical lapses that were noticed will be worked on to prepare for the next year.
Speaking at the 6oth Anniversary commemoration at the School at the weekend, which was on the theme: “Temascho @60, setting the pace for an enhanced educational experience in the 21st Century,” Mr Baidoo recounted that Tema Senior High School was established and commissioned on September 22, 1961, by Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
It was one of the schools the first President built in the 1960s under the Accelerated Development Plan aimed at expanding educational programme.
Mr Baidoo thanked all stakeholders for their contributions to the school’s success and prayed for further strengthening of “the existing partnership with our major stakeholders to build and expand the footprints of our dear school”.
He recounted ongoing projects, such as the: frontage beautification; Water tank and supply system; and a multi-purpose auditorium complex.
Responding to some challenges outlined by the head prefects of the school Mr Baidoo said they have made an appeal to the old students of the school and also Dangote who has promised to renovate the whole boys’ dormitory.
He called on stakeholders such as the government, parents, the old students, individual corporate institutions and all to come to their aid and also commended the old students for rebuilding the school.
As part of the celebration, the school’s cadet, as well as the brass band and cultural troop, displayed their skills to entertain the dignitaries for the anniversary.
Both old students referred to as TOSA and the current ones were all seen in the school’s cloth which had green and cream colours at the colourful event.
