Maiden tribal festival for Zongo Communities ends in Sunyani

Sunyani, Nov. 26, GNA – A maiden tribal festival to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Zongo Communities in the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regions on Thursday ended in Sunyani.

The Centre for National Culture in collaboration with the Angel Broadcasting Network organised the festival, which created a common platform for the northern Ghana tribes to exhibit their diversified culture at the Sunyani Jubilee Park amidst drumming and dancing.

In all, about 20 tribes drawn from the Zongo communities in Wenchi, Goaso, Techiman, Banda-Ahenkro, Bechem, Sampa, and Duayaw Nkwanta attended the festival.

Other tribes from Greater Accra and Buipe in the Savannah Regions joined to spice the festival.

The tribes included Songhai, Wala, Dagaaba, Frafra, Gonja, Sisaala, Banda Sirhen, Hausa, Kusaase, Moshie, Moshi Nasuruba, Fulani, Daffi, Dagomba, Wangara, Baasare and Mamprusi.

They portrayed their rich cultural diversities in dressing, marriage, dancing, and preparation of indigenous meals and diets.

Mr. Seidu Iddrisu Yeboah, the Acting Bono Regional Director of the CNC later told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) culture depicted the true identity of a people, hence the need to highlight and showcase the socio-cultural activities to strengthen links.

“Culture remained an excellent tool to instill discipline and improve morality among the younger generation”, he said and called for effective collaboration between the chieftaincy institution and the CNC to help highlight and deepen the nation’s cultural heritage.

Alhaji Halid Isahak Maiga, the Bono Regional Chief of the Songhai Tribe expressed concern about adulteration of foreign culture which had partly contributed to high moral decadence among the youth.

“Culture is very important because it promotes social cohesion and societal peace”, Haji Osmanu Musah, the Acting Chairman of the Council of Zongo Chiefs also stated.
