2021 Farmer’s Day Celebration: Three companies donate to Fisheries Ministry

Accra, Nov.26, GNA — The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development has received donations from three companies ahead of this year’s Farmer’s Day Celebration.

CTT-Group donated GHS 103, 784.00 worth of items whilst Goodness Energy Company Limited and WE2 Sea Foods Company Limited both offered cheque for GHS 30,000 and GHS 20,000, respectively.

The 37th edition of the National Farmers’ Day celebration, will take place on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Cape Coast, the Central Regional capital.

It will be hosted jointly by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, and Ghana Cocoa Board.

This year’s celebration is themed: “Planting for food and jobs: Consolidating food systems in Ghana”.

Mrs Nana Yaa Boateng, Managing Director of CECT-Group , said the donation was an annual culture of the company to support the Ministry ahead of every Farmer’s Day Celebration.

“Each year, we try to increase the donations we give out. Last year, we donated items worth more than GHS81,000 but this year, we have gone above GHC100,000. This shows that indeed, we’re the fisherman’s friend,” she added.

Receiving the items, Mrs Mavis Hawa Koomson, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, thanked the three companies for the kind gesture.

She gave the assurance that her outfit would put the items and cheques to good use.

The Minister called on other corporate organisations to come on board to support the Ministry.

National Farmers Day is celebrated on the first Friday of December, each year, to recognise the contribution of farmers and fishers to Ghana’s socioeconomic development.

Agriculture accounts for at least 20 per cent of Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product(GDP).
