Akosombo (E/R) Nov. 26, GNA – Assembly Members of the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly (KKMA) in the Greater Region have been educated on decentralization of the Local Governance system and stress management.
Mr MacDonald Acquah, Executive Director Boundless Consultancy Group, stated that Ghana’s decentralization system started in the 1980s, saying several governments across the globe were trying to shift away from the de-concentration system to decentralization.
According to him, the decentralization system was to transfer or delegate some executive and legislative powers to the people at the local level for development and other administrative duties.
Mr Acquah explained that chapter 20 of the 1992 Constitution reaffirmed the commitment to decentralization as stipulated by the PNDC Law 207.
He explained that state institutions such as the Regional Coordinating Councils (RCC), Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), among others, were important state parastatals mandated to implement policies and programmes from the central government to the benefit of the public.
He charged the Assembly Members to uphold the authority of the Municipal Assembly and discharge their mandated duties as the law required.
Dr Pascal Brenya, Life Coach and Human Capital Expert, schooled the participant on stress management and emotional intelligence.
He noted that many public officers find it very difficult to deal with stressful issues, which later affect them as they perform their duties.
He revealed that 90 per cent of humans die out of stress-related issues, a situation he said could be avoided.
He advised Assembly Members to associate themselves with people who would help them make the right decisions in the discharge of their duties; “You can only give what you have”.
Dr Brenya noted that taking in a deep breath during a stressful situation would help curb or minimize the fatal impact on the individual and called on the Assembly Members to take their health very seriously.
