Accra, Nov. 26, GNA – Kingdom Exim Ghana Limited (KEGL), the number one exporter of cashew in the country, has presented cheque for GHC 24,500 to support the Tree Crop Category Award in the upcoming 37th National Best Farmers Day celebrations.
The Company also presented 250 pieces of T-Shirts to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) for the occasion.
Mr Peter Mensah, Director in charge of Corporate Affairs, Kingdom Exim Ghana Limited, said considering the contribution of farmers and agriculture to the socioeconomic development of the country, the celebration of National Farmers Day should not be left on the shoulders of government, thus their support.
“So… we think that our contribution should not be a nine-day wonder. We have, therefore, submitted another proposal that an MOU be signed so that we support the Tree Crop Category Award till Jesus comes.”
Mr Yaw Frempong Addo, Deputy Minister of MOFA and Chairman, National Farmers Day Planning Committee, who received the cheque at the forecourt of the Ministry, thanked Kingdom Exim Ghana Limited for the support.
“The information that your Company was going to support the awards till Jesus comes is the most refreshing news to us.”
The Deputy Minister, said this year’s celebration, scheduled for Cape Coast, on December 3, would be unique with farmers being taken on tour to various tourist sites, manufacturing and processing companies to encourage them to produce more.
He said the tour was also to give opportunity to farmers to see how value was added to their produce.
The celebration would be on the theme: “Planting for food and jobs: Consolidating food systems in Ghana.”
