Accra, Nov 21, GNA – The Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA) has launched its “Zero tolerance on filth” initiative as part of efforts to keep the Municipality clean.
Nii Adjei Tawiah, Municipal Chief Executive, KoKMA, said the initiative was in line with the “Operation clean your frontage” initiative instituted by the Regional Minister.
He said to support the Regional Ministers campaign, the Assembly purchased a truck worth GH¢ 381,000.00 from its Internally Generated Funds (IGF) to support the activities geared towards ripping the Municipality of filth.
“Our Assembly is the first to have started something to implement the Regional Minister’s campaign,” he added.
Nii Tawiah said the Assembly was one of the densely populated in the Region and generated a lot of waste due to daily activities.
“We are poised towards maintaining a certain standard in the municipality, so all efforts to achieve that would be made.”
He said the Assembly did not have the towing equipment to enable it to remove structures at unauthorized places but with the new truck, they would respond promptly to such issues.
“We have been able to work hard to collect two IGF and we felt that this is one of the important things to do, especially now because of the operation clean your frontage in the Greater Accra Region,” the MCE said.
Nii Tawiah said this way of funding projects internally had come to stay and it would encourage the Assembly to collect more funds internally to focus and do more things that were important for people in the municipality.
“This will also help us to respond quickly with the relevant equipment, whenever the need arises,” he added.
“We have a lot of things to do in terms of sanitation and also a continuation to a whole lot of interventions we have brought in terms of sanitation.”
Nii Tawiah said the Assembly also welcomed support from other entities willing to support their efforts.
Mr Isaac Lamptey, Head of Works Department, KoKMA, said the truck would support the department and other departments in the Assembly that engaged in enforcement duties and expressed the hope that it would enhance and facilitate their work.
The MCE later handed over the truck to the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr Emmanuel Baisie.
