Atomfourso (B/R), Nov. 22, GNA – The chiefs and people of Atomfourso, a farming community in the Tain District of the Bono Region have appealed for support towards the completion of an abandoned toilet and Community-based Health Planning Service (CHPS) compound.
Work on the projects, the Ghana News Agency (GNA) learnt during a visit to the community, started in early 2016, but had been abandoned and left at the mercy of the weather.
The community of about 4,000 inhabitants has no public toilets and the residents had turned the abandoned projects into places of convenience.
Describing the situation as appalling and unacceptable, Nana Ekye Nsowah- Adjei II, the Chief of the town, appealed to the government to support the completion of the project to prevent the outbreak of communicable diseases.
He told the GNA that the people had to travel several kilometres to either Nsawkaw or Seikwa before they could access health care services.
Nana Nsowah-Adjei explained the Tain District Assembly started work on the projects but abandoned them, saying persistent appeals to the Assembly to complete them had been unsuccessful.
He said assessment of the two projects showed the community required more than GH¢ 100,000 to complete them and appealed to non-governmental and philanthropic organisations to support the people.
Nana Nsowah-Adjei said the deplorable condition of the Atomfourso-Seikwa road was making it difficult for people to get to Seikwa and appealed to the government to award it on contract for rehabilitation.
“It is always extremely difficult to transport pregnant women to Seikwa or Nsawkaw and we are pleading with everybody to come and support our community,” the chief said.
