Ho, Nov. 22, GNA – Members of the Concerned Drivers Union Association of Ghana (CDUA) have served notice to government of their intention to embark on strike due to the high cost of operation.
They claim the high cost of car spare parts and the continuous increment in fuel prices had burdened drivers and car owners, making life unbearable.
Reverend Anthony Nusinyo, the Chairman of CDUA, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said: “Government must arrest the unpleasant situation.”
“We the Concerned Drivers Union Association of Ghana have noticed that the increment in fuel prices and spare parts in the country have resulted in a high standard of living, which has become burdensome to drivers.”
He alerted members, including taxi and “trotro” drivers, motorbike and tricycle riders, that on Wednesday, November 24, all commercial activities would be put on hold to express their displeasure.
Earlier, the Minority in Parliament demanded that government considered the suspension of the Special Petroleum Tax and a review of the sanitation levy in the 2022 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to help address the incessant increase in fuel prices.
According to the minority, taxes and levies contributed to almost 40 per cent of the final ex-pump prices of fuel.
