Atimatim (E/R), Nov 14, GNA – The management and staff of Atimatim D/A Basic School under Adeiso three Circuit of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Upper West Akim District have launched a special Home Coming event at Atimatim.
Mr Abdul Razak, Headteacher of the school, said the event, the first of its kind at the basic level in the district, seeks to bring together past pupils of the school and other stakeholders, to contribute towards the upliftment of its image.
He said after two unsuccessful attempts by the community to run the school in 1948 and 1951, the Government took over the school in 1974, which has since grown steadily with about 250 pupils and seven trained teachers, six males and one female.
He said the Reverend Emmanuel Obuobi, a retired minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), the Anagblah family (Late Jordan of GFA fame), Joseph of Cal Bank, Oklu of the Kotoka International Airport (K.I.A), as some of the products of the school who served or serving the nation in various capacities.
Baffour Obeng Bosompem I, the Chief of the town, who is also a past pupil, commended the Headteacher and his staff for their commitment, dedication and selfless devotion to duty.
He, thus, appealed to Government through the District Assembly, to complete an abandoned CHPS Compound facility, provide them with a public toilet to improve sanitation, and make the town more attractive to teachers and other personnel.
The Chief also appealed to the GES to urgently consider posting more teachers to the school to lessen the burden on the few teachers currently at the post.
He cited the situation where Primary 1- 6 with about 150 pupils had only one teacher and KG 1 & 2 with 40 kids had only one female teacher, while the Junior High School had only four teachers.
Mr Thomas Deveh of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) who is the Chairman of the school’s Past Pupils Association, urged his colleagues to come in their numbers to grace the occasion and contribute massively to move the school forward.
Present at the function included: Nana Kofi Gbedema Ayikutu, Sanaahene of Atimatim and the Chairman of the school’s PTA, Nana Gbedema Ayikutu III, Chief of the Ewe community in the town and Chairman of the School’s Management Committee (SMC), Messrs. Anthony Chartey, George Kportsema, Nana Benjamin Nartey, Mankrado of Atimatim, among others.
Activities planned for the occasion, which starts from 6th to 8th December 2021, include, clean up exercise, quiz competition, indoor and outdoor games, and would be climaxed with a fundraising durbar.
