Tema, Nov. 12, GNA – Construction works on the main Sakumono-Tema Beach road has created uncomfortable state of affairs as the commuters endure the dust emanating from the untarred road in the midst of traffic congestion.
Drivers and commuters while commending the authorities for the construction works, however appealed to the contractor to apply international best standards in road construction within communities which mandates that the health of the residents and users were considered.
Scores of the drivers, passengers, and residents in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Tema claimed that the project had protracted for too long and prayed that the Contractor sped up the process.
Some workers described the situation on the Sakumono Beach road as unbearable “you get to the office dirty as a result of the dusty nature of the road and unfortunately in spite of the dust drives speed on it.
“So by the time you get to the office you will not only be late, but soaked in dust”.
A driver noted that they battle between dust, when the weather was dry and muddy road when it rained.
Commuters and private car owners said, they would have to leave the house early to avoid traffic and save them the hassle on the road.
Market women were no exception as they also used that road to go about their daily duties.
Meanwhile residents of Sakumono in the Tema West Municipality have also reiterated the call on the government to fix the main road from the beach road intersection to the Sakumono Village through the Estate.
Some of the residents, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency in Sakumon, said construction works on the road had stalled after it was graded recently.
They said the terrible nature of the road was not only detrimental to their health, but also affecting their businesses situated along the stretch.
The five-kilometre road construction is part of an initial 28.6-kilometre road network facelift being undertaken by the Ministry of Roads and Highways in the Tema West Municipality.
