Ho marks 76th anniversary of end of WWII with solemn service, parade

Ho, Nov. 11, GNA- The atmosphere at the Ho Jubilee Park in the Volta Region, was filled with great solemnity as the city marks the 76th Remembrance Day of the end of the Second World War.

The Day was commemorated with a solemn service and parade, which was under the command of Captain King David Sekyi.

The parade was made of 397 men drawn from the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Prison Service, the Immigration Service, and some members of the Veteran Association of Ghana (VAG).

The event was also marked with Christian, Muslim, and traditional prayers, wreath-laying, reading of Binyon verses, blowing of siren, and sounding of the last post at exactly 11:00 hours.

There were also three-gun salutes and two minutes of silence in honour of the fallen heroes.

Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister laid a wreath on behalf of the President and the people of Ghana, Lieutenant Colonel Edward Sarpong Appiah, Commanding Officer of the 66 Artillery Regiment, laid on behalf of the security services in the Region.

Togbe Drake Tsigbey IV, Paramount Chief of Akoefe Traditional Area laid one on behalf of Chiefs and the people of the Volta Region while Captain George Nfodjo (Rtd) laid one on behalf of VAG.
