Kasoa (C/R), Nov. 11, GNA – The Central East Regional Police Command on Thursday, rounded up 26 suspected internet fraudsters at Ironcity, a suburb of Kosoa.
The suspects including two females were arrested in three separate houses by the police based on intelligence.
The police retrieved 31 laptops, 26 mobile phones, three machetes and some dried leaves suspected to be cannabis and some toffees suspected to have been laced with cannabis.
The special operation undertaken by the Police, forms part of its efforts to clamp down illegal activities in the area.
This comes amidst the expression of insecurity among some residents who had been complaining about the rising crime rate in the area.
Briefing the media after the arrest, Central East Regional Police Commander, DCOP Okyere Boapeah Kojo, said the suspects would be thoroughly screened and those found liable will be prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others.
He admonished landlords to do thorough background check of all tenants before giving out their rooms for rent to them.
He advised homeowners to always cross-check with the Ghana Immigration Service to authenticate the resident permit and other documents of foreigners before renting out their rooms to them.
The Central East Regional Police Commander, rallied the support of all residents and reminded them of their civic responsibility to volunteer timely and accurate information to the law enforcement agencies to rid the region of all social miscreants.
