Over 4,000 candidates to write BECE in Tema Metropolis

Tema, Nov. 11, GNA – A total of 4,034 final students of various Junior High Schools in Tema Metropolis were registered to sit the 2021 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE,) which will commence on Monday, November 15, 2021, to Friday, November 19, 2021.

The candidates are expected to write the examination on seven subjects with Social Studies and French Language being the first two papers to be taken on Monday.

Mrs Bernice Ofori, Tema Metropolitan Director of Education disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in an interview.

Mrs Ofori said out of the total number of candidates, 1,946 were males while the remaining 2,088 were females, adding that the examination would be written at 13 centres.

The candidates she said were registered from 27 public schools and 68 private schools in the Metropolis.

Giving a breakdown of the candidates according to the centres, she said 204, and 214 would be writing at Chemu SHS centres ‘A’ and ‘B’ respectively; 348 candidates would sit for the exams at the St. Paul’s Methodist School, while Manhean TMA One and Two would host 362 and 261 respectively.

Others are Manhean Secondary Technical, 286; Tema Methodist Day centres A and B, 280 and 216 respectively; while 346 would write at Our Lady of Mercy SHS centre.

The rest are Tema PRESEC 296; Naval Base JHS 455; St Peters Catholic School 327; and Nyalor SDA 339.

The Education Director added that 13 supervisors, 14 assistant supervisors and 141 invigilators would be used to conduct the examination in the Tema Metropolis.

She gave the assurance that all was set for the commencement of the exams as according to her, the outfit, with collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, and the Tema Metropolitan Health Directorate had assigned Police Officers and nurses respectively to the centers.

Mrs Ofori advised the candidates to learn hard and eschew examination malpractices as that could lead to the cancellation of their papers.

She said in accordance with Ghana Health Service directives all COVID-19 protocols would be adhered to.
