Yeboakrom (E/R) Nov 11, GNA – The Birim Central Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region, has commissioned a six-unit furnished classroom block, attached with an office and a store room for Yeboakrom M/A Primary School.
The classrooms are furnished with a lighting system, writing boards, and 55 dual desks.
Madam Victoria Adu, the re-elected Birim Central Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said the block, which was awarded on contract with Kristo Adom Enterprise, was funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND).
On behalf of the Assembly, she presented 120 school uniforms to the students and advised them to frequent themselves to school to access the facility to enable them climb higher on the educational ladder.
She said plans were underway to extend the School Feeding Programme, to the school.
Mr Alexander Akwasi Acquah, the Member of Parliament for Akim Oda Constituency, also a member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health, urged parents to take a keen interest in their children’s education as the government was doing its best to provide them with social amenities.
He said the area now has electricity, school, but lacked Community Health- based Planning Services (CHPS) Compound, and that measures were afoot to provide them with one by the completion of his term of office.
Giving a brief history about Yeboakrom M/A Primary School, the Birim Central Municipal Director of Education, Mr Benjamin Cudjoe, said the school was initially a private school, called Solid Foundation Institute, and in 2020, it was converted to a public school, by the Education Directorate.
He lauded Mr Mark Nathaniel Mensah, a former Proprietor for prioritising children’s education, which curbed covering long distances in attending school at various communities.
He said the school which was established in 2006, with 10 children, had it swelled to 120 students by 2020 when it was converted to a public school.
In 2021, the population further rose to about 182 as efforts are made to establish a Junior High School.
He cautioned against the habit of turning classrooms into churches, and tasked the community members to ensure, the facility focused on its educational purposes.
The “Odikro” of Yeboakrom, Nana Kwabena Ampea Mensah, thanked the Education Directorate and the Municipal Assembly, for their support to the community.
