Edwenease (Ash), Aug. 31, GNA – Chiefs have been urged to collaborate effectively with their Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to initiate and implement pragmatic programmes that will help bring the needed development to their people.
Dr. Kingsley Nyarko, Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwadaso, who made the call, said chiefs had an important role to play in facilitating infrastructural development in their various communities.
Therefore, there was the need for them not to sit down idle and talk, but rather, create cordial relationships with their local government authorities to bring socio-economic infrastructure and programmes that would help improve the living conditions of their people.
Dr. Nyarko made the call, at a town hall meeting organised for the chiefs and people of Edwenease electoral area in the Kwadaso Municipality, as part of his community outreach engagement with his constituents.
The programme, which is the tenth in the series organized by the MP in the Constituency, was under the theme “Building Kwadaso Together”.
It was designed to afford the MP and the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Richmond Agyenim Boateng, the opportunity to interact with the people and keep themselves abreast with developmental challenges facing residents and discuss best ways they could do together to resolve them.
Among the issues discussed were security, job creation, economic and social infrastructural development.
Dr Nyarko pointed out that traditional leaders and the MMDAs had a shared responsibility and needed to work together for the development of the people in their areas.
He said local governance could only function and bring the needed socio-economic development when traditional leaders and the people supported and co-operated with their assemblies to perform.
Dr Nyarko took the opportunity to thank the people for voting for him to represent them in parliament and appealed to them to unite and support him in the discharge of his duties.
He also asked them to rally behind the Municipal Assembly in the implementation of their development programmes for their benefit.
As part of the programme, the MP presented quantities of hand sanitizers, and LED bulbs to the Assembly Member for Edwenease, Mr. Emmanuel Agyei Darko, for distribution to the people.
Dr. Nyarko also presented 20 pieces of 150W street light bulbs to be fixed in the area to boost security.
The MP said it was important for the community members to decide the projects, which were of priority to them for consideration and implementation by the Assembly.
Mr. Richmond Agyenim Boateng, the MCE, on his part appealed to the people to rekindle the communal spirit and embark on regular clean-up exercises in their communities.
He said keeping the environment clean would prevent the outbreak of communicable diseases.
Mr. Agyenim Boateng urged the people not to see their participation in self-help projects as a burden being imposed on them by the government, explaining that participation in communal labour helped to accelerate the pace of development.
He also advised them to strictly adhere to the covid-19 safety protocols since Kwadaso Municipal had been identified as one of the hotspots in the Ashanti Region.
Mr. Emmanuel Agyei Darko praised the MP for engaging the residents to know the challenges facing them to find the best ways to address them.
