Tema, July 1, GNA – The Susana Wesley Missions Auxiliary (SWUMA), a women fellowship
within the Saint Andrews Methodist diocese in Tema Community two, has donated some essential items to the inmates of the Tema Community 4 prisons.
The donation forms part of activities to commemorate SWUMA’s 20th anniversary.
The items donated to the women cell included Paints, Hand Sanitizers, Liquid Soap, Bags of Pure Water, Toiletries, T-Rolls, Tissue Paper, Non-Surgical Face Masks for the warders and Biscuits, Soft Drinks and other items like Bibles, Methodist Hymn Books and some Cash.
The items are to assist the Prison Service to provide for the daily upkeep of the inmates and to maintain good hygiene at the facility.
The Reverend Rosemond Obeng Amoako, the Resident Pastor of Tema Community One diocese of the Methodist Church of Ghana, who presented the items, said, “it is the responsibility of every church to show compassion and mercy to the vulnerable, poor, widow and needy in our communities.
“One of the major missions of SWUMA is to go to homes, prisons, mental hospitals and villages to share the little possession like clothing and foodstuffs with people who need it.”
Mrs Mary Ofori, the past organizer for SWUMA, said that “Your greetings alone, a smile to somebody, a touch, a gift of GHC10.00 or GHC20.00 will serve as support and provide hope for the hopeless.”
Mr Godfred Boffa, a representative of the Ghana Prison Service, who received the items on behalf of the inmates expressed appreciation to the SWUMA for the support.
“On behalf of the Regional Commander, I want to thank SWUMA for their support and kind gesture during these hard times.
“We’re very grateful that these items came at the right time and would like to encourage other organizations and individuals to emulate SWUMA and come and give to assist us to construct our broken fence wall,” he said.
Mrs Gladys Baffour, President of SWUMA, expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the charity work of SWUMA.
