SEDASS wins maiden edition of ER library craft challenge contest

Koforidua(E/R), June 27, GNA – The Seventh Day Adventist Senior High School(SEDASS) has beaten three other schools in the New Juaben South Municipality to emerge victorious in the maiden edition of the Ghana Library Authority Eastern Region craft challenge competition.

SEDASS obtained 93 points to become triumphant in the highly competitive craft contest that featured New Juaben Senior High School (NJUASCO) which came second with 86 points.

Pentecost Senior High School (PENSEC) came third with 84 points, while Koforidua Senior High and Technical School (SECTECH) was fourth with 75 points.

The competition was on the theme: “Creating wealth through recycling” and each participating school presented four members of which all the schools had two sets to create an artwork using plastic bottles as the key focus.

The contest had two segments, where the participants did a freestyle craft and the other was a library-themed craft.

The winners, SEDASS, made a plastic bottle robot, library signage craft, a chair, newspaper centre table, pencil cases, and a clock through plastic bottles.

NJUASCO also created a student reading, big pencils, a trophy, wine glass while, PENSEC also did a bookshelf, penny boxes, pencil cases and SECTECH did a student reading, helicopter and a car.

SEDASS took home a plaque, gold medal, certificates, while the second position NJUASCO took home a plaque, silver medal, certificates and all participating schools received a certificate.

Mr Evans Korletey-Tene, Eastern Regional Director of Ghana Library Authority (GhLA) said his outfit since 2019 was focused on promoting Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in SHSs.

He said three STEM hubs were set up in some SHSs in Eastern Region as well as a pilot hub in one basic school with the purpose of opening the creativity of students to have solutions for challenges confronting the country.
