Reports: At least 18 killed in gang fight in Mexico

Mexico City, June 26, (dpa/GNA) – At least 18 people were killed in a suspected fight between criminal gangs in Mexico, local media reported Friday.

The bodies were found together with two burned minivans in a rural mountainous area of Mexico, according to media reports citing police in the state of Zacatecas.

Members of the Jalisco Nueva Generacion cartel (CJNG), one of the biggest organized crime groups in Mexico, were reportedly among the dead. There were no further details on the circumstances.

In Mexico, a country of 126 million people, almost 100 murders are registered every day on average.

Violence in the country is largely linked to drug cartels and other criminal groups which often have connections to corrupt politicians and security forces. Most of the cases are never solved.
