Accra, June 18, GNA — The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has rolled out security arrangements for the 59th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of States and Governments of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) slated for Saturday, June 19, 2021 in Accra.
A statement signed by Superintendent Mrs Sheilla Kessie Abayie-Buckman, Director of Public Affairs, Ghana Police Service (GPS), and copied the Ghana News Agency, urged Ghanaians to take note of the arrangements and co-operate with the Police and all other security officials for a successful hosting of the event.
The statement said as part of the security protocols, there would be closure and diversion of roads leading to the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
It said all dignitaries attending the meeting would be provided maximum security and that designated lodging places including; meeting areas would also be protected by security personnel.
“The public is therefore advised to stay off the immediate vicinity of the AICC and the State House Complex on Saturday 19th June 2021.
“Meanwhile, the Police has activated both overt and covert operations in the communities surrounding these areas and the unnamed lodging places of the dignitaries,” the statement said.
It said the security arrangements required closure or diversion of roads from Jubilee Lounge (KIA) to Liberation Road, Opeibea, Airport Traffic Light, through the Independence Avenue, Ako Adjei Interchange, the National Theatre Traffic Light, National Theatre leading to AICC at some points in time between 0600 hours and 1900 hours on Saturday, June 19, 2021 and Sunday, June 20, 2021.
Motorists are, therefore, advised to take alternative routes.
The statement said the presence of uniformed security personnel would increase in the general area of Accra.
Also, maximum security would continue to be provided in the entire country through overt and covert operations.
Police Officers would also be stationed at the points of road closure or diversion to direct motorists, the statement said.
