Berlin, June 16, (dpa/GNA) – Vaccine manufacturer BioNTech will bring its vaccine deliveries for Germany back down to the agreed level next month after exceeding its quota in June.
“BioNTech delivered more than 50 million doses to Germany in the second quarter, over-fulfilling the contract,” a company spokeswoman told dpa on Wednesday.
“We will deliver more doses in June than originally agreed to support and accelerate the vaccination campaigns in Europe and thus also in Germany.”
In the third quarter – starting in the month of July – the number of doses will be delivered as contractually agreed, he added.
Germany’s Health Ministry said that the vaccine drive had been speeded up by BioNTech bringing forward its vaccine deliveries.
It had been expected that the total quantity supplied by BioNTech would decrease in the third quarter and total 40.2 million compared to over 50 million in the second quarter.
The ministry expects an average of about 3.3 million BioNTech vaccine doses per week in the third quarter.
