Asakraka (ER), June 13, GNA – Mr Emmanuel Atta Ofori Snr, Kwahu South District Chief Executive, has called on inhabitants of Kwahu South to take full advantage of the Green Ghana project to plant more trees to beautify tourist sites.
He said Kwahu was an area of tourist attraction and it was important to use the initiative to plant more trees at the tourist sites in the Kwahu ridge to enhance beautification.
He made the call during the planting of trees as part of the Green Ghana project, a government initiative geared towards restoring Ghana’s lost vegetation.
Under the initiative, the government planned to plant five million trees in a single day to combat deforestation.
A total of 10,000 trees of different species would be planted by the Kwahu South District in the Eastern Region under the project.
Tree seedlings were distributed to schools, Churches, farmers, companies for planting, while some of the trees were planted at the roadside and the Asakraka town.
The DCE urged Ghanaians to support the government to achieve its objective by planting the trees given out, adding, after the planting people must continually monitor and protect the plants from dying.
Mr Nii Keri Kassachin, District Director Forestry Commission, said the Commission and the Fire Service, would collaborate to fight against bush burning and any activities that would destroy the green environment.
He stated that they would also provide education to farmers and all the people to protect the plants distributed to them.
The planting of trees in the district was led by the DCE and Mr Nii Keri Kassachin, District Director, Forestry Commission and Nana Somuah Nyampong Chief of Kwahu Asakraka.
