Tema, June 12, GNA – Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Barima Tweneboah Sasraku II, Tema Police Regional Commander, has said even though in every society miscreants exist, the aim of the Police Command is to reduce their activities to the minimum.
“It was more costly in terms of time, energy, and funds to detect and investigate crime than to prevent it, so the Tema Regional Police Command has upscaled operations towards crime prevention,” he stated.
DCOP Sasraku II added that even though police could investigate and prosecute deviants, they could not provide protection for the emotional effects of crimes on victims, therefore the need for all to protect themselves and others as a preventive measure.
The Tema Regional Police Commander told the Ghana News Agency at Tema during a short ceremony to receive assorted items from the Management of the Unilever Ghana Limited in recognition of the command’s contribution towards crime prevention.
The products which included; boxes of close-up and pepsodent tooth pastes, keysoap and lipton teabags were to support officers and men of the Tema Police for their contribution in the fight against the COVID-19 Pandemic.
He said the Ghana Police Service existed to deliver services in Crime Prevention Detection, Apprehension and Prosecution of offenders consistent with the expectations of Ghana stakeholders for Maximum Protection, Safe, Secure and Peaceful Communities.
DCOP Sasraku who is also the Jukwaa-Mfum Hene and Denkyira Abuakwa Adontenhene said the Police Command would continue to be honest in its activities; firm but fair; and work in partnership with the community.
He said the Police would continue to be impartial, value human life, respect the dignity of each individual and render service with courtesy and civility, as well as be confidential, disciplined, serve with excellence and be respectful, open and accountable to the community.
He revealed that working as police officers within the COVID-19 was not easy as personnel were uncertain on whether they could contract the virus from suspects when touching them during arrest.
The Tema Regional Police Commander commended Unilever for the gesture stressing that the items would motivate the personnel and the Command would present it to men who got injured in the course of duty and the patrol teams to ginger them during night duties.
The Police Commander`s team included DCOP/Mr. Anderson Fosu-Ackah, Deputy Regional Police Commander; Superintendent Mr. Kwabena Otuo Acheampong, Regional Police Crime Officer, Chief Inspector Stella Dede Dzakpasu, Acting Regional Public Relations Officer and ASP Patricia Akuamaoh Boateng, Acting Staff Officer.
Mr George Owusu Ansah, Managing Director of Unilever said the items were in appreciation of the work the Police was doing in Tema especially during the high-points of the COVID-19 era as they worked as frontline officials to ensure that recalcitrant members of the public respected the protocols.
He said as a corporate entity, they had enjoyed the cordial relations with the police and other stakeholders and therefore decided to pay a visit to the leadership of the police to offer their support.
He said apart from having the peaceful atmosphere to work in, most of its 1,000 direct staff resided in and around Tema therefore their safety was also important to the company`s productivity.
Touching on his company`s operations, he said the Ghana factory produced about 70 per cent of its products on the market creating indirect jobs for its raw material suppliers as well as distributors.
This, he believed also helped in reducing crime among the populace explaining that people in gainful employment were less likely to indulge in criminal activities for survival.
The Unilever team included: Mr Michael Otchere Duah, Human Resource Manager, Mr Henry Malm, Head of Communications, and other staff.
