Dambai (O/R), June 11, GNA – Mr Joshua Gmayenaam Makubu, the Oti Regional Minister, has launched a 150,000 tree planting project at Dambai, the Oti Regional capital.
He said the Green Ghana project in the Region is an opportunity to reflect and adopt more proactive management practices of natural resources.
He said the Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) would enact appropriate and enforceable bye-laws to ban induced human activities that posed threats to the environment within their areas of jurisdictions.
He urged the security agencies to assist the Municipal and District Assemblies in the enforcement of these bye-laws.
Mr Dickson Adjei Sakyi, Oti Regional Director of Forestry Commission, called on all people in the region to own the tree planting exercise to make it successful.
He said the Forestry Commission department has distributed free seedlings totalling 129,310 to the various stakeholders across the region and planting is ongoing.
The seedlings distributed, include Ofram, Neem, Mahogany, Gmelina, Cedrela, Cashew, Coconut, Cassia and Teak.
Mr Sakyi said the tree planting exercise under the Green Ghana project, would provide habitat for many animals and plant species.
Nana Kwaku Beyornnor II, Chief of Dambai, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the chiefs and traditional leaders would support and bring the President Akufo-Addo’s initiative to reality.
