Mexico City, May 20, (dpa/GNA) – At least seven people have died in a Guatemalan prison, the Public Ministry said on Wednesday.
The Quetzaltenango District Prosecutor’s Office was at the scene at the Cantel Rehabilitation Model Farm in Quetzaltenango, in Guatemala’s west.
According local news the seven victims were inmates killed during a mutiny in the prison.
The Ombudsperson’s Office (Procurador de los Derechos Humanos, PDH) said that “acts of violence” resulted in the deaths of “several people” and that the prison is overpopulated by 200 per cent.
The PDH said that it opened a file on the events.
