St. Mary’s Boys “SMOBA” 2011-year group supports alma mater

Apowa (WR), April 27, GNA – The 2011-year group of St. Mary’s Boys’ Senior High School in Takoradi has donated musical instruments worth hundreds of cedis to the School.

The donation formed part of activities of the year group to mark its tenth year of completing the school.

Mr. Kwamina Tandoh, Secretary of the year group, said the donation was their widow’s mite to support their alma mater that had raised them to be responsible citizens as well as to inculcate the idea of social responsibility.

He indicated that the 2011 Alumni would continuously explore varied means of supporting the school.

Mr. Stephen Abban, the National Secretary of the St. Mary’s Old Boys Association, acknowledged the year group for their contribution to the growth of the School, and assured that the leadership would bring all old students on board.

Receiving the items, the Headmaster, Reverend Fr Yaw Adu Ansah, expressed gratitude to the past students for their deep involvement in promoting the welfare of the School, saying “visiting the school and donating to her was a testament of how thoughtful you are of the school”.

The visibly elated students who witnessed the donation at the School’s Assembly Hall were admonished to take their academics serious to propel a bright future.

“I appeal to you to work hard to sustain the hard-earned reputation of the School by ensuring excellence in academic fields,” said Mr. Justice Annan, an old student.

After the donation of the instruments, the 2011 year group together with Mr. Flex Akrah a housemaster went for a tour through the School.

The tour revealed that many things such as the school bus, science resource centre, which served the school and other SHS schools within its surroundings were in a very bad state, due to inadequate funding from government over a period of time.

Headmaster in this regard, welcomed any help from all charitable stakeholders and the old boys to provide the School with a thirty seater toilet facility to serve the increasing number of student, which use to be about 500 students each year of completion to about 1400 students currently.
