Russian doctors perform heart surgery despite fire at hospital

Moscow, April 2, (dpa/GNA) – In Russia, doctors successfully performed open-heart surgery on a patient despite a fire breaking out in the hospital, the Interfax news agency reported on Friday.

The doctors were unable to interrupt the operation despite the fire at the hospital in Blagoveshchensk in Russia’s far east.

They left the burning building once the operation had been completed, the report said.

The patient’s condition was stable after the procedure and he was brought to another hospital’s intensive care unit.

The roof of the building had caught fire, the cause of which is currently unknown.

According to authorities in the city, more than 100 people were brought to safety. No one was injured.
