Kumasi, March 08, GNA – The Public Service Workers’ Union (PSWU), in line with its vision to incorporate new media channels in promoting its operations and activities, has launched a website (www.pswu.org).
The initiative, according to the leadership, is seeking to advance the cause of workers as pertained to latest developments in the working environment, policies and programmes affecting the welfare of workers in general.
It also formed a component of the ‘PSWU Strategic Plan (2020-2023)’, which has been developed to inject efficiency into the administrative structure of the Union at all levels.
Mr Bernard Adjei, the General-Secretary, said they were determined to expand the medium of communication to members through Information Technology in response to contemporary demands.
Mr Adjei, who was addressing the National Executive Council (NEC) at a training session at the PSWU premises at TUC, Kumasi, affirmed that the Union existed to promote and protect the socio-economic interests of its members.
Therefore, the leadership had resolved to use cutting-edge technology to promote the sustainable growth of the Union.
Mr Adjei, in a presentation, said the Strategic Plan, amongst others, sought to develop strategic management systems by improving the capacity of the PSWU secretariat to deliver quality service to members.
Additionally, it aimed to ensure gender mainstreaming in all Union activities and increase total membership by 20 per cent by the year 2023.
On education and training, the General-Secretary hinted at plans to develop an annual training guide of topics relevant for members’ growth and adapt existing manuals for training at all levels.
He said the PSWU has envisioned developing the skills of staff and members to meet the emerging challenges relating to the workplace.
Mr Ken Tweneboah Koduah, National Chairman, PSWU, in a brief message asked members to focus on the strategic plan and objectives of the Union.
He said the NEC would continue to rally solidly behind public service workers to enhance their welfare and wellbeing.
The programme discussed topics, including “COVID-19: Health and Safety Protocols”, “Historical Antecedents of the PSWU”, “Social Security, SSNIT and Pensions”, and “The PSWU and Membership Drive.”
Mr Horatius Yartey Quaye, a former Deputy General-Secretary, speaking on the ‘Historical Antecedents of the PSWU’, said the Union had come a long way in its formation and growth.
He, therefore, advised members to stay united and always fight for improvement in their working conditions for increased productivity.
