London, Feb 23, (dpa/GNA) – Prince Philip is suffering from an infection and will continue to stay in hospital for a further few days, a spokesperson for Buckingham Palace has said.
The prince, who is married to Queen Elizabeth II, was admitted to hospital in central London a week ago for an undisclosed illness, which the palace then later confirmed was not Covid-19.
However as his stay has been extended, the royals have taken the unusual step of stating the nature of Prince Philip’s illness, although the type of infection has not been confirmed.
In a short statement on Tuesday, Buckingham Palace told dpa: “The Duke of Edinburgh remains at King Edward VII’s Hospital where he is receiving medical attention for an infection.
“He is comfortable and responding to treatment but is not expected to leave hospital for several days.”
Over the weekend, Philip and Elizabeth’s eldest son and first in line to the throne, Prince Charles, visited his father briefly in hospital before returning to his countryside home in Gloucestershire.
