Juba, Feb 22, (dpa/GNA) – More than two dozen members of South Sudan’s Office of the President have been infected with the coronavirus and are now in quarantine.
Presidential Press Secretary Ateny Wek Ateny told dpa by phone late Friday that 27 people working for President Salva Kiir have tested positive.
Those infected mainly work in Kiir’s security detail, as well as cooks and drivers. But Ateny said that he, too, has tested positive.
President Kiir himself is well, Ateny said, but going forward will increasingly limit his contacts and is working from home.
The oil-rich country in East Africa has officially recorded 6,417 coronavirus infections and 83 related deaths.
