Washington. Feb 19, (dpa/GNA) – US President Joe Biden, on Friday told world leaders attending the annual Munich Security Conference, that transatlantic alliances were a priority for the United States once again, following four years under his predecessor Donald Trump.
“I am a man of my word. America is back. I speak today as president of the United States, at the very start of my administration, and I’m sending a clear message to the world: America is back. The transatlantic alliance is back. And we are not looking backwards,” Biden said.
“Let me erase any doubt. The United States will work closely with our European Union partners and the capitols across the continent,” in his first major speech on the European stage.
The United States is fully committed to its alliance with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Biden added, noting that the US stands fully behind the organization’s collective security treaty.
The event is taking place online for the first time this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
