Tema, Feb. 18, GNA – Mr Felix Mensah Nii Annang-La, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive Officer (MCE) has tasked Sub-Metro Council members to promote popular participation among the citizenry and inculcate high sense of ownership of the local government system.
He said Councillors of the Sub-Metro District Council were expected to exhibit exceptional qualities and commitment towards the realization of the Phase Two of the Tema Restoration Agenda”.
Mr Annang-La stated during the inauguration of the 20-member Councillors of the Tema East Sub-Metro District Council and the election of its Chairman.
He expressed concern that in recent times the communal spirit associated with our communities had declined; the TMA Chief Executive therefore charged the Sub-Metro Council to incite the grass-root and get them involved in achieving a sustainable development.
He stated that the Sub-Metro Council had not been established to take over the mandate of the Chiefs rather to harness the rich potential of the Chiefs and assist them to carry out activities that would positively impact on the lives of the people.
“You must come out with innovative strategies to generate enough revenue in the community,” he said.
Mr Annang-La emphasised that one of the greatest challenges confronting the community was the management of waste and environmental sanitation and entreated the Council as community leaders to put premium on Sanitation to rid the city of filth.
He urged the community, business entities and faith based organizations to support the District Council to succeed adding that the Assembly would also support the council to achieve its mandate.
