Hohoe MCE visits rainstorm disaster sites in Santrokofi and Likpe

Hohoe (V/R), Feb. 17, GNA – Mr Andrews Teddy Ofori, the Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has admonished citizens to carry out a regular maintenance audit on their buildings.

He said there were buildings including mud ones that were constructed several decades ago, which had not seen any rehabilitation or checks on them.

Mr Ofori, who visited the Santrokofi Gbodome D/A Primary School, which had its front view ripped off, called for community mobilisation in re-roofing the structure.

He called on the management of the School to plant trees around the school to serve as windbreaks.

The MCE also called on the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Municipality to regularly inspect school structures.

He said it would enable the government to assist schools in solving identified problems they might be facing.

Madam Mabel Attukumah, Assistant Headmistress of the School told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the incident occurred on February 12 after school hours, hence, no student was hurt.

She said exercise books of students were soaked by the rain after the incident adding that textbooks were not affected since they were locked up in cupboards.

Madam Attukumah said the School would start a programme to plant trees as suggested by Mr Ofori.

Mr Philip K. Adom, Assemblyman for Santrokofi Bume/Gbodome Electoral Area, disclosed that the community was making the necessary arrangements to secure lumber towards the re-roofing of the School.

Mr Ofori also visited the Likpe Koforidua community, where a rainstorm ripped off some 34 houses.

He pledged the government’s support while tasking the community members to also take the necessary steps to ensure that their buildings stood the test of time.

The MCE also visited 97-year-old Madam Aminatu Dramani whose building was also affected by the disaster.

Nana Kofitse Samba V, Chief of Likpe Koforidua, commended the MCE for his visit and expressed hope that the relief items would soon be distributed to the victims.

Records by the Hohoe NADMO revealed that 166 victims were affected by the disaster in Likpe Koforidua.
