Tema, Feb. 15, GNA – Augustine Manasseh on Saturday, retained the O.A. Special Invitational Golf Championship trophy.
He returned a net score of 68 to win this year’s competition played at the Tema Country Golf Course.
Playing with a Handicap of three, Manasseh, a member of the Tema Country Golf Club scored 36 In and 35 Out in the 36-Hole Scratch event to clinch victory in the competition which commemorated the 77th birthday of Mr. Felix Owusu-Adjapong, a former Minister of State and one-time President of the Club.
He was followed by Adams Abdallah with 71 net while Tei Lartey-Gberbie took the third position with a net score of 76.
In the Men’s Group ‘A’ segment, Francis Amuzu emerged champion with 68 net, Justice Fiagbor came second with 65 net while Michael Hutubise placed third with 70 net.
The Group ‘B’ encounter saw young enterprising Michael Nyarko annexing the trophy with 70 net, Paapa Otoo coming second with 73 net while Chris Aidoo placed third with 74 net.
In the seniors encounter reserved for golfers aged 75 years and above, Mr. Owusu-Adjapong and his wife, Adelaide emerge champions in the Men’s and the Ladies categories respectively.
Leticia Amponsah Mensah won the Ladies event with 69 net, Margaret Owusu-Baah took the second position with 75 net while Gladys Fabbi placed third with 79 net.
The Professional’s trophy was won by Francis Torgah with 68 net, while Victor Brave-Mensah came second with 71 net, beating E.K. Osei on count-back.
The one-day event which attracted 70 golfers was sponsored by Voltic Ghana Limited.
Nana Dr. Ani Agyei, Captain of the Tema Country Golf Club commended the participants for the sportsmanship exhibited and also for observing all the Covid-19 safety protocols.
He described Mr. Owusu-Adjapong as a man whose contribution had made the Club what it is today adding that the O.A. Special trophy will be played in the ensuing years.
Mr Owusu-Adjapong on his part commended the participants for the support he had been enjoying from them and asked to take active interest in the activities of the Club.
