Dambai (O/R) Feb 12, GNA – Delegates of the Oti Region on Friday elected Mr Richard K, Atikpo, businessman and President of Legon Cities Football Club as Regional representative of Council of State.
Mr Atikpo secured 11 out of 16 votes with Mr Gyato Charles Twentor and Mr Barnabas Kwame Yeboah garnering two votes each.
The rest of the contestants obtained zero.
They are Nana Obonbo Sewura Lupuwura, Nana Owusu Afari, Mr Brekumi Anti Henry, Mr Michael Kwabla Besa Katamani, Mr Dzegbla Divine Dzidodo and Ollator Nana Kofi.
According to Mr Nuhu Mohammed, Oti Regional Electoral Officer said there were 15 valid votes and a rejected ballot at the close of polls.
Mr Atikpo told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that, he would establish a second division club in the Region to help promote talents of the youth in football.
He said it was necessary to create an environment, where young people could test their ideas and have the opportunity to develop footballing skills to enable them to lead fulfilling lives.
The losing contestants congratulated Mr Atikpo for his feat and wished him well in the high office of the representative of the Regional Council of State.
Some of the delegates told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), election was a reminder that democracy was the best form of government because it offered the people opportunity to elect their representatives by peaceful means.
