Jakarta, Jan. 26, (dpa/GNA) – A gas leak at a geothermal power plant project has killed five people in Indonesia’s North Sumatra province, police said Tuesday.
Dozens of villagers near the power plant project in Mandailing Natal district were exposed to gas poisoning on Monday after a worker opened a valve to allow geothermal fluids to flow into a pipe, local police chief Horas Tua Silalahi said.
“The leak has been stopped and we are in talks with the company to ask them to suspend the project to ensure safety,” Silalahi said.
