Accra, Jan. 10, GNA – Charles Ayisala, a watchman, serving eight years prison sentence for using a catapult to cause harm to an intruder has been released from the Awutu Camp Prisons.
This was after Crime Check Foundation with support from one, Ibrahim Ali, a “good samaritan” came to the rescue of Ayisala and paid his court fine of GH¢9,000.00.
Ayisala had been asked by a law court to pay GH¢6,000 to the State and another GH¢3,000 to the intruder or in default serve eight years in prison.
Ayisala, who was earning GH¢150.00 monthly, could not pay the fine and thrown into jail.
The Ghana News Agency gathered that the intruder had sneaked into one of the rooms Ayisala was keeping watch over and defecated on the floor.
The Agency was told that during verbal exchanges between the intruder and Ayisala over the act, he (Ayisala), struck a shot with his catapult, which unfortunately hit the intruder’s eye, resulting in the arrest and prosecution of Ayisala.
Earlier, Mr Ali, donated GH¢30,000 to support the Foundation’s “Petty offenders Project“, where court fines are paid for inmates
Mr Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng, the Executive Director of the Foundation, expressed gratitude to Mr Ali for the support to assist inmates pay their court fines to freedom.
