Residents cry over burnt electricity pole

Accra Dec. 22, GNA – Scores of residents around Bush Road located near Teshie in the Ledzokuku Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, on Tuesday expressed concern over a burnt electricity pole which is now a ticking time bomb.

The residents in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the burnt electricity pole was likely to have a serious effect on the residents very soon; saying, the consequences of such an imminent disaster could cause a lot of damage.

The residents, therefore, appealed to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), and the Member of Parliament, to as a matter of urgency, help to resolve the problem.

Mrs Mary Djane, a resident of the area, said the ECG meters mounted on the poles got burnt affecting the pole in the early days of November. The ECG visited the location and mounted a new pole but the work has not been completed.

“They left midway through the work without transferring the electrical wires from the old pole to the new. They told us that after the General Elections on December 7, they will come and change the pole, and its been two weeks now and they haven’t returned yet,” she said.

Mr Daniel Adjei Narh, another resident whose meter also got burnt, explained that after the incident, an ECG worker who lived in the area gave them a signed letter to send to the main office located behind the Lekma Hospital.

“We have waited for so long, they told us after the December 7 polls they will attend to us immediately but it’s been two weeks and we are still waiting, living in daily fear.

“The burnt pole has turned into a death trap for our kids who play nearby because no one knows when it will fall off,” he added.
