Ghana beat Nigeria to advance to WAFU semi-final stage

Accra, Dec. 9, GNA – The Black Satellites of Ghana have qualified to the semi-final stage with a game to spare in the ongoing West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone B U-20 match following a lone goal win over the Flying Eagles of Nigeria at the Stade de Gaules Stadium in Benin.

The hard-fought win from the Satellites put Ghana on top of Nigeria and Cote D’Ivoire in the tourney ongoing in Benin.
Techiman Eleven Wonders’ winger, Percious Boah’s expertly taken free-kick in the dying embers of the game was all Ghana needed to progress to the last four.

Boah despite taking Ghana to the next stage would miss the next match against Ivory Coast after receiving two yellow cards.

In the first half, Nigeria’s Ekoe Merci and Adewale Oladoye goals were denied by the Referee who ruled Merci’s as an offside Oladoye’s as an infringement before the goal.

Ghana drew a bye in the opening round of the tournament, following the number of teams in Group B. The Satellites will battle Ivory Coast in the final Group B.

The top two teams in the competition will secure a spot at next year’s Africa U-20 Championship.
