Awutu Bereku (C/R), Dec. 5, GNA – Madam Kathleen Addy, Deputy National Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has called on Ghanaians to be Agents of peace before, during and after the December 7 elections.
This, she said will go a long way to help to protect and sustain the peace’ and tranquility the citizenry has been enjoying all this while.
Madam Addy, made the call at a Parliamentary debate organised by Awutu-Senya, NCCE Directorate for Parliamentary Candidates (PCs) in the Constituency at Awutu Bereku
Only the National Democracy Congress (NDC) and Convention People’s Party (CPP) showed up.
Mr George Nenyi Andah, incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) and also PC for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was absent.
The debate formed part of activities by the NCCE across the country to provide platform for the constituents and the PCs to interact, provide non-violent campaign for the citizenry to also make informed choices at the polls, come December 7.
The programme was sponsored by European Union (EU) in collaboration with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), with Right Apostle Abeiku Okin, the Youth Parliament Speaker of Awutu-Senya as the moderator.
Mr. Samuel Yawson, PC for CPP and Mrs. GizellaTetteh-Agbotui for NDC presented their vision to help better the lots of the citizenry.
They answered questions on findings of research conducted by the NCCE, dubbed ‘Matters of Concern to the Ghanaian Voter’, Education,
Mr. Samuel Yawson, CPP, PC said, Awutu-Senya district one of the districts in the Region which lacked many social amenities, like factories and he will do all he could within his power to bring more development to the area to help better the lots of the people.
Mrs. Tetteh-Agbotui stated that most of the people in the area were farmers and she will use her rich expertise to help improve the well-being of the people in the areas of healthcare, education and job creation.
She said she will also put special innovations in place to help eradicate poverty in the area.
Similar debates were held at Winneba by the Effutu Directorate where Alhaji Omar, PC for Convention People’s Party (CPP) was the only one present.
Mr. Alexander Afenyo-Markin incumbent MP for Effutu also the current NPP, PC and Dr. James Kofi Annan NDC, PC were all absent.
At Gomoa Buduburam in Gomoa East District, Pastor Kofi Essel, PC for Ghana Union Movement (GUM) and Mr Emmanuel Okyere, for United Progressive Party were present.
Mr. Alexander Mensah and Mr. Emmanuel Quashie from the District Education Service Directorate were the moderators.
Mr. De-Craft-Paitoo NDC, PC and Mr. Kojo Asemanyi the incumbent MP and PC for the NPP failed to attend.
At Kasoa in the Awutu-Senya East, Mr. Ishmael Addy for CPP and Mr Peter Kwao Lartey, G.C.P.P, were present with Rev. Fr. Daniel Yaw Gemu, Parish Priest for St. Gregory Parish, Buduburam as the moderator.
Madam Mavis Hawa Koomson, incumbent MP and and Madam Phills Naa Koryoo for NDC were absent.
The PCs and the people who were at the various debate centers promised their commitment to work harder for tolerance and peaceful coexistence before, during and after the elections.
