Special voting begins smoothly in Lambussie/WA Central

Lambusie (UWR), Dec. 01, GNA – Some registered voters in the Lambussie and the Wa Central Constituencies in the Upper West Region started casting their votes as the Special Voting started peacefully in the area.

In all, 389 registered voters are captured in the Special Voters List in Lambussie, while 867 are on the Wa Central Constituency list who are expected to cast their votes at the Traditional Council Polling Station in the Lambussie District and at the Wa Circuit Court ‘A’ and ‘B’.

A Visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to the special voting centre in Lambussie revealed that the exercise, which started at about 0700 hours started smoothly with the presence of security personnel and COVID-19 protocols being observed.

Mr Nicholas Kwao Hilleh, the Presiding Officer, said as at 08:00hours GMT, 41 males and three females had cast their ballot.

He said they were making sure all registered voters who turn out for the exercise observed all the COVID-19 safety protocols before voting.

Prior to preparation for the General Elections, the Electoral Commission (EC) published the list for individuals who will vote on Tuesday, December 1, as a result of their duties on Election Day.

The Special Voting list covers security, media personnel, and election officials who will be unable to vote at the polling stations where they registered on December 7.

In the Lambussie Constituency, the NPP, NDC, CPP and an Independent Candidate are contesting for the Parliament seat, which is currently occupied by the NDC.

At the Wa Central Constituency, a total of 101 had already cast their ballot as at 08:45 HR GMT at the Circuit Court ‘A’ centre while 85 people voted at the ‘B’ centre as at 08:50 HR GMT when the GNA visited there.

Dr Joseph Wulifan, the Presiding Officer for Circuit Court ‘A’ centre, said the first person who cast the ballot, the Biometric Verification Machine (BVM) captured it as four votes instead of one and that the machine had to be substituted.

He explained that all the parties’ agents witnessed the anomaly before the machine was replaced and that though the machine had been withdrawn, the vote is valid.
